THE THEATER
|
Keep in mind, this *is* a $2.50 theater showing 2nd run movies; so don't expect something as nice as
the Cordova or the Paradiso. There is no stadium seating,
but the crowd is usually so small that you shouldn't have a problem finding a seat with no one sitting in front
of you.
Surprisingly, there's plenty of legroom, but the big seller is that THE SEATS HAVE CUP HOLDERS! For some reason,
Malco actually points this out on their website. Also,
according to Malco's website, when you choose to view a movie at
the Bartlett 10 you can expect rocking chair comfort. They make it hard to pass up, don't they? I'll never
forget the time my friend asked me to go see the Lord of the Rings on opening night. Thanks to Malco's website
I was able to say, "Sorry, but I'll wait until it comes to Bartlett because hey, they have cup holders
and rocking chair comfort."
I wouldn't choose to see the big blockbuster, special effects-laden movies at the Bartlett 10, but if you're not
sure whether or not you want to pay full price to see a movie, then you might as well wait and see it for cheap.
Or just check the Movie Mark for reviews, and I'll be sure and let you know what's worth spending your money on.

WHAT SETS IT APART
|
- Movies are only $2.50
- Popcorn and coke are about $1 cheaper than at the bigger theaters.
- Free refills on large, overpriced (yet discounted by $1) drinks.
|
|
CONCESSIONS
|
Bartlett 10 offers "discount" concessions, but the "discount" prices aren't exactly anything to email mama
about. Check out these prices:
| Popcorn: |
SMALL - $2.00 |
MEDIUM - $2.50 |
LARGE - $2.75 |
| Drinks: |
SMALL - $2.00 |
MEDIUM - $2.50 |
LARGE - $2.75 |
| Candy: |
SMALL - $1.25 |
MEDIUM - $1.50 |
LARGE - $1.75 |
Not too cheap. But hey, for those of you who are eager to tempt yourself to go to the bathroom during the movie,
there are free refills on large drinks! Woo! If you just have to have movie popcorn (I know, it's tasty), then my
suggestion is to sneak in your own candy and drinks to complement it.
Based on the forlorn looks I saw written all over the lonely faces of the employees, I don't think they're gonna
have the energy or desire to try to NARC you.
At least the concessions are cheaper than you'll pay at most other theaters in town.

WHAT'S NEARBY
|
Want to eat or shop somewhere before or after the movie? Here are your best (i.e. closest) options:
Dixie Cafe - This is good southern cooking. Prices aren't too bad either. Most meals
are under $10.
Don-Don's Hot Wings - I know absolutely nothing about it. Could be good, but I'm scared
to try it.
Mandarin Palace - I've eaten here once, and it's pretty good Chinese food, but not the best
in Memphis. I prefer Tycoon, Red Sun, and Hunan.
Milano's Pizza - Pretty good pizza, but it's no Pizza Hut.
Steak-Out - I don't know why, but I've never eaten here.
Subway - They've got good subs, but they're getting smaller and
smaller. The other day I had to lift an olive to find the meat.

THE GIST
|
The Bartlett 10 is a good discount theater. It's in a safe location, and while the theater *is* outdated, and
there is no stadium seating, the sound and screen quality are above average and more than adequate for a
second-run movie.
Be sure and tell 'em Johnny Betts sent you. I know you won't though. Ingrates.
