Johnny Betts There were several movies released in 2004 that I was really excited about, but for whatever reason they let me down. I went into the theater with high expectations and walked out either less than impressed or a little disappointed. I may have still enjoyed them on some level, but they just didn't reach the heights I was hoping for. Here are the ones that disappointed me the most.

6. The Village - I enjoyed this movie. Really, I did. So why is it on the list? Mainly because I really like M. Night Shymalan, but this one didn't live up to The Sixth Sense or Signs. It had a good amount of suspense, but I wasn't a huge fan of the twist at the end. Surprising? Yes. What I was hoping for? No.

5. The Alamo - Again, another movie I enjoyed overall. Unfortunately, it didn't have the emotional impact on me that I was hoping for. This is one of those epics that you want to blow you away, and it just didn't do it.

4. King Arthur - I'm a fan of King Arthur, so I was really excited about the prospect of how good this movie could be. It's not a bad movie, but man, it just didn't spark any emotional attachment. Placing the Arthur legend in a historical context ended up being less interesting than I was hoping it would be.

3. Shaun of the Dead - I wasn't dying to see this movie, but hey, the trailer looked really funny! And it got great reviews! So I checked it out and was under whelmed and was quite happy I didn't have to pay to see it. Maybe I shouldn't have expected an all-out comedy, but that's the trailer's fault, not mine.

2. Secret Window - The fact that it's based on a Stephen King short story and stars Johnny Depp seemed like a pretty good combination to me. Then I read how the buzz at audience screenings was "so great" that the release date was being moved up. I love thrillers, so I thought for sure this was gonna be one of the best thrillers I'd seen in a long time. Nope. It's not a bad movie or anything, but I was left feeling dissatisfied at the end. Not only was the twist too predictable, but it was also the exact opposite of what I was hoping it'd be. Oh well.

1. The Machinist - I was hoping for Memento, but I got something more along the lines of Secret Window. Nothing terrible, but nothing really to go back to. I was really hoping this would be a "movie of the year" contender, so I was seriously let down.
