The fictional story of how Jack Black and Kyle Gass form the rock band Tenacious D. Looking for a secret to

JOHNNY'S TAKE
|
Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny is so ridiculously stupid that it has sapped any and all desire I may
have had to make this the extremely hilarious review that I'm more than capable of. All I really feel like
doing is sending out a big warning - you might want to think twice before choosing to spend time and money
on this. If you then decide to go ahead and check it out then I recommend you stop and think a third and
fourth time.
Let me make it crystal for you - the opening scene involves cartoon characters of Black and Gass flying around
the screen on fart fumes. Yep, that basically sums up what to expect. There are indeed some funny and truly
inspired comedic moments in the film, but most of it feels like a movie that was made under the influence of
an illegal substance, designed for watching while under the influence of the same illegal substance. Think
Harold & Kumar go to White Castle except even less funny.
Sorry, but I just don't guffaw down the aisle in maniacal fits of laughter because somebody knows how to write
songs that incorporate "f" bombs about every third word. Nor do I doff the ol' laughter hat at non-stop
references to male genitalia.
This one's for Tenacious D fans only. The only other people who might like it are kids with substance abuse
problems who are swimming precariously in that three month layover between the end of high school and the
beginning of college who haven't decided what to do with life and may be considering being a "rocker."
Most everybody else will likely hate it.

ODDS & ENDS
|
- Cameos include Ronnie James Dio, Amy Poehler, Tim Robbins, David Grohl, and Ben Stiller.
- I had a bunch of other Odds & Ends, but I don't feel like posting them. However, if just ONE person emails
me and says he or she would like to read them then let me know and I'll do it.
- Jack Black was in Saving Silverman with Amanda Peet who was in Melinda & Melinda with Josh
Brolin who was in Hollow Man with Kevin Bacon.

MAMA'S APPROVAL
|
Um, no. Profanity and drug usage is extreme. There are probably close to 200 "f" bombs "sprinkled" throughout.
Sexual references are also abundant.

TRAILER COMPARISON
|
The first trailer I saw was horrible. The second one (with the young versions of Black and Gass) was better and
gave me a little hope. Unfortunately, the movie most closely resembles the first trailer.

THE GIST

Avoid unless you're a die-hard Tenacious D fan.
