PLOT
|
Kat Ellis (Messing) hires Nick Mercer (Dermot Mulroney a.k.a. Dylan McDermott), a high-class male prostitute, to
pose as her boyfriend for her younger sister Amy's wedding (Amy Adams) in London. Will Nick's super charm and
hunkiness work at getting Kat's ex-fiance Jeffrey (Jeremy Sheffield) jealous? Debra Messing's awesome hair in a
crappy movie ensues.

STEPH'S TAKE
|
I had a feeling when the movie started by showing rose petals falling in slow motion on a wedding invitation that
this wasn't exactly going to be my cup of tea. Having to hear "Leave Me Breathless" nearly in its entirety was
another clue. While I did end up not liking the movie, it wasn't because it was as gay as I thought it would be.
It was because the movie was just stupid and dull.
So Kat shells out $6K to hire Dylan McDermott. I couldn't help but think she could have gotten this money by
pawning the engagement ring she still had from ex-love Jeffrey, who broke up with her suddenly after a 7-year
relationship. But no, she still has that ring, which is a pet peeve of mine. It's so wainchy to keep a ring that
you didn't pay for. Doesn't matter if he was a jerk or if you were a jerk or you both were jerks -- GIVE THE RING
BACK!
Back to the movie. Well, there really wasn't much of one, so I'm not sure what else to write. Dylan McDermott
charms everyone in his path, men and women alike. He shows off his derriere in one scene, much to the squealing
delight of all the other women in the theater. As for me, I prefer to look at a good-looking face. Dylan McDermott
is attractive, I will give him that. He kept reminding me of Aidan Quinn as Dez in Desperately Seeking Susan.
Anyway, if you can believe it, Kat starts developing feelings for Dylan!! And vice versa! I bet you would never
have imagined that. Will he quit the biz for her? And what about her sis' wedding? That couple has issues of their
own. Will they go through with their nuptuals? Who cares? I didn't.
This movie wasn't very funny, and the plot was boring. I didn't care about any characters. I guess maybe I wanted
Kat and McDermott to get together, but then again, he's a male slut, so my sympathy could only go so far. After
the flick ended, Mrs. Shade and I went and joined our better halves to catch the end of
Alone in the Dark, and we cracked up more in those 20 minutes than during
all of The Wedding Date. I know that doesn't say much about Alone in the
Dark, but still.

ODDS & ENDS
|
- Even Mrs. Shade thought this movie was stupid. Folks, SHE LIKED THE PRINCE AND
ME!!
- Steph is not one who necessarily condones plastic surgery, but Debra Messing's nose is quite distracting.
- Steph would kill to have Debra Messing's hair. In fact, it counts for one whole mark in the rating of this
movie.
- Debra Messing was in Along Came Polly with Jennifer Aniston who was in Friends with David
Schwimmer who was in All the Rage with Josh Brolin who was in Hollow Man with Kevin Bacon.

MAMA'S APPROVAL
|
There are a couple of sexual scenes and innuendo that mama wouldn't care for. And there's that booty shot. I
don't remember any bad language, but then again, I wasn't exactly riveted to every word. This movie is good for
chicks who like gay flicks.

TRAILER COMPARISON
|
I almost fell asleep watching the trailer, so it is a pretty good indication of what you'll get when you see the
movie.

THE GIST
|
The Wedding Date is pretty much what you'd expect from a romantic comedy starring Debra Messing and Dermot
Mulroney -- a bunch of fluff and a few smile-inducing moments -- your basic movie lacking in substance that gave
the stars the chance to hang out in England.
