MY TAKE

[The Movie Mark's Note:  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Men in Black 3 screening, but I was gracious enough to let my buddy Shawn Mathenia attend in my place.  His review is below.  I will be seeing it soon and will provide my own review, but since his comments regarding Josh Brolin seem spot on I decided to go ahead and post his perspective.]

HELLO EVERYBODY!!!  SHAWN PAUL MATHENIA IS BACK BABY!!!!  Adam was supposed to go see the Men in Black 3 screening, but he had an allergic reaction to the wax they use to remove the bear fur on his back. His wife wanted to enjoy their beach time on Memorial Day weekend without PETA protesting around them screaming that fur is murder. You know he had to be in pain to miss seeing Josh Brolin in action.

Men in Black 3 jells perfectly with the first one.  The second one was a horrible misfire, so I try to forget that one. J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are like an old married couple where one is just waiting for the other to kick the bucket.  Will and Tommy have got the characters down perfect, and they really know how to bounce off each other.

The story is fun, and the special effects are amazing.  There are a couple of cuss words, but it’s not really that violent. This is definitely a fluffy, popcorn movie.
Though the movie is fun, there are also a couple of problems:

  •     I hate when surprises aren’t “surprisie” (not really a word, but I am OK with that).
  •     I was verrrry upset that Will Smith didn’t do the theme song.
  •     The family of Randy Macho Man Savage should sue them for using his likeness (Boris the Animal).
  •     There are not enough “aliens” in the story or on the monitors.  I missed the little pug and the shop owner.
  •     They did some really bad CGI work to make TLJ look young. It really made his acting look wooden and took me out of the movie…

Most of you know that our trusty leader, Adam, is a huuuuuuuuuuge Josh Brolin fan. So, I just wanted to mess with him for a moment or two. Josh Brolin IS the strongest actor that is working today. He is amazing as Tommy Lee Jones/K. I am not a big fan of the guy, but he SOLD his part of the movie. And if they ever make a sequel, he will have to be in it, because TLJ is too old to act. His face is so wrinkled that if you put him face first in a wind tunnel, his cheeks would be behind him. He would have to tie his cheeks into a pony tail, so as not to beat the back of his head.

So, yeah, go see it. It is worth the price of admission because of Brolin. The story is fun, but THE AVENGERS actually upped the ante as far as Summer  popcorn movies go. So if you have seen THE AVENGERS, then by all means go see Men in Black 3 but understand that it ain’t no AVENGERS.  If you haven’t seen THE AVENGERS, then GO SEE IT and be amazed!

I give Men in Black 3 4 boots since Josh Brolin is so awesome in it.

MAMA'S APPROVAL

Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, and brief suggestive content, Men in Black 3 has a couple of cuss words, but my mother cusses like a sailor, so she wouldn't have cared. Actually my mother is a saint... whom I fear.
